W.O. Grubb Crane Rental, a leading crane, rigging, and heavy hauling solutions provider in the Mid-Atlantic region, added an EnCORE remanufactured Manitowoc MLC300 VPC-MAX™ to its robust crawler crane fleet in early 2024. The crane was completely rebuilt by Manitowoc EnCORE partner, MGX Equipment Services, at its Belle Chasse, Louisiana facility. The crane addition underlines W.O. Grubb’s commitment to providing top-tier equipment for a wide array of projects while emphasizing efficiency and reliability.
“We opted for an EnCORE refurbished Manitowoc MLC300 VPC-MAX crane due to its shorter lead time and lower upfront cost, among other significant factors,” said Doug Adkins, Director of Fleet Operations at W.O. Grubb. “The crane was also immediately available for purchase from MGX Equipment Services. This decision aligned with our objective to deliver exceptional service while improving operational costs.”
The Manitowoc MLC300 crawler crane refurbishment involved comprehensive upgrades, including replacing the boom, rebuilding the mast, installing a new engine, and resealing critical components, according to Bill Walston, branch manager at the MGX EnCORE center in Louisiana.
After a planning and preparation period, the MLC300 refurbishment was completed in under ten weeks. The successful refurbishment underscores the close collaboration between Manitowoc and its EnCORE partner, MGX, to deliver competitive solutions to customers.
Confidence in crawlers
The EnCORE refurbished MLC300 crawler crane swiftly integrated into W.O. Grubb’s operations, demonstrating its versatility and remarkable performance during its first assignment in North Carolina. The crane was configured with a full luffing jib and VPC-MAX.
W.O. Grubb now has a crawler fleet boasting 11 MLC300 cranes, reaffirming its confidence in Manitowoc crawlers and its partnership with MGX. The company purchased its first MLC300 crane in January 2016 and has since made it a cornerstone of its operations.
MLC300s are renowned for their reliability, strong load charts, high line pulls, and speed on the hoist. The intuitive Crane Control System (CCS) further enhances efficiency, ensuring seamless execution across diverse projects.
The responsive support provided by MGX has been instrumental in W.O. Grubb’s success.
“MGX has an excellent service team,” Adkins said. “From field technicians to the EnCORE factory team on the crawler side, their knowledge and dedication are critical to the success of our daily operations with Manitowoc cranes.”
Established in 1962, W.O. Grubb is a family-owned crane services company with an extensive fleet of mobile and crawler cranes.
