GST Calls for an EnCORE Performance of Its Grove All-Terrain Crane with a Rebuild by MGX

  • The oil and gas company selected MGX’s EnCORE program to refurbish the crane to reduce costs and preserve its operators’ familiarity with the operating system.

Grove All-Terrain CraneGST, a leading services company in the oil and gas industry in Midland, Texas, is revitalizing a Grove GMK5275 all-terrain crane with a rebuild from MGX Equipment Services, via its EnCORE program. GST has relied on the 16-year-old crane to move drilling rigs and determined it would be cost-effective and simpler for its operators to have the crane rebuilt rather than purchasing a new one.

“The GMK5275 has served us well for years, and several key factors drove the decision to rebuild rather than replace,” said Dave Chelewski, crane superintendent at GST. “The initial investment required for a new crane is significantly higher, and the GMK5275’s ECOS operating system is familiar to our team.”

The crane will be stripped down to its base weldments and reconstructed with top-quality remanufactured engines, cylinders, and hydraulic valves. New electrical harnesses and hydraulic hoses will be installed, and a new slewing bearing will be fitted, as well as remanufactured slewing gearboxes. The hoists and hoist brake assemblies will be overhauled. The crane will receive a fresh coat of paint in GST colors.

MGX has supported GST in the field since its move to Midland, Texas. The rebuild project expands the partnership between the two companies. The rebuild should take eight months, and it will not alter the crane’s lifting capacities or load charts.

“MGX is proud to support GST in maximizing the value and longevity of its equipment investments. We are both committed to excellence in the oil and gas industry, and this EnCORE refurbished crane will enable them to get the job done,” said MGX’s director of EnCORE, Nate Pears.
